PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) – The City of Pueblo Parks and Recreation has received the 2022 Pools Special Initiative grant award from the Colorado Department of Local Affairs and Office of Outdoor Recreation Industry of the Office of Economic Development and of international trade.
The city of Pueblo was the only city in southern Colorado to receive the maximum amount of $25,000.
“We know this grant initiative is part of Governor Polis’ efforts to support Colorado swimming and recreation across the state in many local communities like ours in Pueblo and we are grateful for the award,” said Pueblo Parks and Recreation Director Steven Meier.
Colorado Governor Jared Polis wanted to make sure communities could take immediate action to help with summer pool recreation. This grant was awarded to 71 pools across the state of Colorado. It provides assistance with retention, recruiting, training and overtime compensation if required for staffing purposes.
Although Pueblo Parks and Recreation has not had any issues with recruiting lifeguards or other recreation personnel, this grant allows the City of Pueblo to continue providing services to Pueblo citizens during the post-pandemic recovery. . Pueblo Parks and Recreation plans to increase service hours and availability for the remainder of the summer with the use of this grant
“We are very proud of the services we provide with Pueblo Parks and Recreation, and we know residents look forward to the opening of the pools each summer as they plan their daily activities with swimming, parks, leagues and d other activities we offer for young people and adults,” Meier said.
Pueblo Parks and Recreation has four outdoor pool locations across the city including City Park Pool, Mineral Palace Park Pool, Mitchell Park Pool and Ray Aguilera Park Pool and times vary by location . The opening hours of the Municipal Park Pool and the Mineral Palace Park Pool have two sessions with the first session from 12:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and the second session from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily. Mitchell Park Pool and Ray Aguilera Park Pool are open from noon to 5 p.m. daily.
