Parks invite you to walk in the fall

LIMA – Do you love going out, walking in the crisp, crisp fall air and seeing the leaves flutter in a colorful greeting as you walk past? If so, Johnny Appleseed Parks has the perfect invitation for you.

There will be a guided hike Saturday morning at 9 a.m. at Haver Ridge Metro Park, 8335 Bellefontaine Road, Harrod. The hike is free, but handmade wooden walking poles and specially designed t-shirts will be available for purchase for $ 10.

The hike takes about an hour and a half and you will walk over easy to moderate terrain.

If you’re planning on going, take a minute to call the parks office at 419-221-1232, or you can register online at If the hike looks like something you want to do but have a prior commitment, don’t worry: another hike is offered on Saturday, October 30 at 9 a.m. at Hermon Woodlands, 485 N. Wapakoneta Road, Lima.

Buddy Guy with special guest Ally Venable: 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Veterans Convention and Civic Center, 7 Town Square, Lima. Tickets are available for $ 45, $ 65 and $ 129.

“Refresh, Renew, Restore” event for women: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday and 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Lima Community Church, 2945 N. Cole St., Lima. Ticket options range from $ 15 to $ 25.

The guest speaker will be author Cynthia Tobias. Tickets cost $ 15 for Friday, $ 20 for Saturday, or $ 25 for both days. The event is open to all women.

Sip and Design October’s Floral Pumpkin: 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Yazel’s Flowers & Gifts, 2323 Allentown Road, Lima. Admission is $ 65.

Yazel’s friendly staff will teach you how to design the perfect flower arrangement while sipping your favorite drink. Call 419-224-1771 to register.

Halloween party for young people: 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the YMCA, 345 S. Elizabeth St., Lima. Tickets are available at or call Aaron Cross at 419-223-6045.

Children ages 6 to 12 will have fun participating in a Halloween costume contest. There will be crafts, gym games and swimming. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Trained YMCA staff will supervise the youth and parental supervision is not required.


Home Sweet Home Holiday Market: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Allen County Fairgrounds, 2750 Harding Highway, Lima. Admission is $ 5. Children 12 and under are admitted free.

Shop for all of your favorite shabby chic, farmhouse and rustic decorations. Or are you just someone who enjoys hunting these unique and original pieces? Vendors have something for everyone.

Walkathon fundraiser for the Japanese garden: 10 a.m. at the Japanese Garden, corner of Elizabeth and Eureka streets, Lima. It’s a free event.

Mass commemorating the embrace of Saint Catherine: 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 189 N. Church St., Ottoville.

Mass will commemorate children who have been lost as a result of miscarriage, stillbirth and infant death. Everyone is welcome.

Trunk or treat: 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 1300 Edgewood Drive, Lima. Admission is free and the event is open to the public.
