Lowcountry Field of Dreams Hosts Banquet to Support Youth Outdoor Activities

By: Jessica O’Connor

The Lowcountry Field of Dreams will host its annual banquet on August 6, 2022 at the Berkeley Shrine Club in Moncks Corner, South Carolina. Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy dinner and an open bar while participating in games, raffles and a live auction. Raffle and auction items include over thirty firearms and a registered chocolate lab puppy, among other items.

Proceeds from the banquet will go towards the organization’s annual youth deer hunt taking place the first weekend in October. The chapter purchases hunting apparel, game calls and other supplies for participating children, as well as provides three meals a day to families for the duration of the event.

For nineteen years, Lowcountry Field of Dreams has provided children with terminal illnesses, difficult family lives and other less fortunate circumstances the opportunity to escape their reality and enjoy the outdoors. The weekend begins on Friday with lessons in hunter education and gun safety, followed by target practice. The children then go into the forest with volunteer guides on Friday and Saturday afternoon, as well as Saturday and Sunday morning. They have the opportunity to participate in all aspects of the hunt, from harvesting to processing. When not in the field, children can enjoy each other’s company while participating in various games and activities. “It’s a bonding and healing experience for children and their parents,” said chapter president Billy Wayne Chambers.

Banquet tickets are $45 for individuals and $70 for couples. There are also various sponsorship opportunities.
