Kelowna’s Best Outdoor Dog Parks

[ad_1]

Recently immigrated, Kelowna is like a delicious box of assorted chocolates. There are a plethora of places to explore. It’s refreshing and exciting to explore a new hometown and see it through the eyes of a dog elevates it to a whole new level of enchantment. In this case it is our Great Dane puppy named Tobias (his friends call him Toby).

Toby has proven that Kelowna defines the true meaning of a dog’s life. It embraces life to the fullest while growing in its oversized legs and ears. Here are Toby’s favorite places to visit rated on a scale of 1 (tail tucked in) to 5 (a commotion blur).

Lake Avenue Off-Leash Dog Beach

124 McTavish Ave

Quaint, cute, with a different experience depending on the time of day. It can be very quiet or very busy. This is the first place Toby ventured into the lake, so it will always be a vivid memory. On the other hand, this is where we encountered the majority of dog sniggers and snapping, which is not ideal when your dog is off leash. It was there that Toby first met Holden, another Great Dane and an accomplished gentleman. He even recently stayed at Holden’s for a slumber party!

Poplar Point Off-Leash Dog Beach

589 Poplar Point Drive

Toby wag-o-meter: 3.8

It was the first off-leash beach Toby had ever visited. It was an overload of cuteness and pure puppy joy as he let off steam on the beach sand for the first time. He has since learned to brave the lake and enjoys wading thanks to the shallow water that stretches far away – ideal for a puppy who is not yet ready to tackle doggy paddle boarding. It’s small, but somehow it makes it extra special.

Mission dog park

1085 Lexington Drive

Toby wag-o-meter: 4.2

Toby came here as a young puppy (well, by Danish standards), and now at five months old. While there isn’t the beauty of the lake and a beach, this is a great place to socialize with other dogs in a fully fenced area. While Toby is still learning to listen to the instructions, the fence makes this dog park a much more relaxing experience. He can run and play freely while I chat with a local or two. This is where Toby met Hank. Let’s just say that a Toby and Hank combo was priceless.

Cedar Creek Dog Park

5167 Lakeshore Road

Toby wag-o-meter: 4.6

Clean, clear water with smooth rocks that Toby was able to navigate easily. The people were friendly, and the dogs were all wagging and dangling tongues. The lookout is breathtaking and there is a generous amount of beach to walk through. Toby managed to stumble and almost fell off a low wall, but the Danes aren’t exactly known for their agility.

Mission Creek Regional Park

2363 Springfield Road

Toby wag-o-meter: 4.8

Toby loves the foliage. To eat, that is. I think that might just be the reason his tail was blurry with joy. If I had had a tail, it would have wagged too – not because I eat foliage but because of soul nourishment. The turtle pond is mother nature showing off; however, it is an example of a journey as rewarding as the destination. It’s beautiful from start to finish. Extra Bonus: Toby had so much fun he slept the rest of the day and I got to get some work done.

Sun-Oka Dog Beach

Okanagan Road, Summerland

Toby wag-o-meter: 4.9

Toby’s tail twitched almost immediately. There is room to run for days, and swimming in the lake made me feel young and invigorated. We went with some friends and lay on the beach for a full morning. Toby made more furry friends, and that’s when he first discovered that lakes are essentially giant bowls of water. He also continued to dip his muzzle and blow bubbles, much to his (and ours) delight.

Pontoon boat rental Tiki time Tours

Toby wag-o-meter: 5

We don’t have a boat so we did the best thing and rented one. This day was a higher level memory. Dive into the lake, listen to music, nibble on delicious treats and breathe in the perfect environment. Happiness! Toby donned a life jacket which didn’t impress him too much, but he had THE best day. The jowls snapping in the breeze and the dips in the lake give this activity a 5/5 rating for both us and Toby.
