DOT to highlight CV outdoor activities, culture in travel festival

MANDAUE CITY, Cebu – Outdoor activities such as paragliding, kayaking, scuba diving, mountaineering, trekking, horseback riding and refreshingly experiencing the rich sea and land destinations here are among the main attractions that Central Visayas has to offer during the International Travel Festival 2022 (ITF 2022) scheduled for February 18-20, 2022.

In a statement, the Visayas Central Office of the Ministry of Tourism (DOT-7) said the festival to be held at Ayala Center Cebu supports industry players in the provinces of Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor who are trying to recover from the ill effects of the pandemic and super typhoon Odette.

“After two years of virtually being at home, the ITF 2022 theme ‘Time to Travel’ is fitting. Indeed, it’s time to travel, to experience more of our mountains, our lush farms and forests, our beaches and the sea,” said DOT-7 director Shahlimar Hofer Tamano.

Apart from the tourist attractions in the region, DOT-7 will also feature the Filipino Martial Arts (FMA) which has already gained international popularity, as well as the rich heritage and culture of the various localities in the region as an additional attraction. during the event.

“Philippine Martial Arts practitioners are scheduled to attend a demonstration on February 18. DOT7 has strongly supported FMA through its FMA7 program,” the DOT statement read.

Tamano said a focus on outdoor and FMA destinations “corresponds with existing health and safety protocols and promotes a more active and natural lifestyle.”

Travel festival participants include Cebu Association of Tour Operations Specialists (CATOS), Oslob Cebu Paragliding Development, KayakAsia Philippines, Inc., Philippine Accessible Disability Services, Inc., Habagat Outdoor Equipments, Inc., Moalboal Dive Association, Malapascua Business Association, Negros Oriental Dive Association, Zamboanguita Diving and Leisure Resort Association, Dive Mactan, Pacifica Dive, Ocean Dive and White Tipand Sea Explorers.

Hotels, resorts, restaurants, travel agencies, booking platforms, insurers and other industry players also attend the show to offer huge booking discounts, promotional offers and innovative giveaways.

“The ITF is the largest travel convention in the region. Returning for its seventh race after a pandemic-induced two-year absence, it’s a promising restart for an industry struggling to recover from the challenges posed by the CoViD pandemic and Super Typhoon Odette,” said DOT- 7.
